When you need to find out how many feet are in yards, skip count by 3s.

Imagine you have a jump rope that is 12 feet long.

To find out how many yards that is, skip count by 3s.

  1. Start at 3 feet (which is 1 yard).
  2. Next, count to 6 feet (which is 2 yards).
  3. Then, count to 9 feet (which is 3 yards).
  4. Finally, count to 12 feet (which is 4 yards).

Boom! You just used skip counting to find out that 12 feet is 4 yards.
