What Is PowerPoint?

PowerPoint is a tool for creating presentations.

Think of each slide like a page in a book. You can add text, pictures, videos, sounds, and more.

People use PowerPoint to teach, explain, or showcase ideas in a fun and colorful way.

Step 1: Starting Your Presentation

Follow these steps to get started.

  1. Open PowerPoint.

  2. Click Blank Presentation to start fresh.

You’ll see one slide ready for you—it’s called the Title Slide.

Step 2: Adding Slides and Choosing Layouts

  1. Click New Slide to add more slides.

Each slide can have a different layout—for example, one with only a title, one with a picture, or one with space for bullet points.

  1. Try out a few layouts to see what works best for your ideas!

Step 3: Picking a Theme

  • Want your slides to look amazing?

Follow these steps.

  1. Click the Design tab.

  2. Choose a theme to add colors and styles to every slide at once.

Don’t be afraid to scroll through and find one that fits your personality.

Step 4: Adding Text

  1. Click where it says Click to add text and start typing.

  2. Use bullet points to keep your info short and snappy.

  3. Keep it big and bold so your audience can read it easily.

Step 5: Adding Pictures and Clip Art

  1. Click Insert, then choose Pictures or Online Pictures.

  2. Find images that match what you’re talking about.

  3. Make sure the pictures aren’t too big or too tiny!

Step 6: Animations and Transitions

  • Want your slides to move and groove?

Follow these steps.

  1. Click the Animations tab to make text or pictures appear in fun ways.

  2. Use the Transitions tab to add cool effects between slides.

Just don’t overdo it—one animation per slide is enough to keep things smooth.

Step 7: Saving and Presenting

  1. Save your work often by clicking File > Save As.

  2. To present, click Slide Show and then From Beginning.

  3. Click through your slides and show off your masterpiece!
