Imagine you’re on your computer, and you want to write a story or ask a friend to play.

  • What if you could write your message and share it with anyone, anywhere?

Well, that’s what Google Docs can do!

Explore how you can type and share your ideas with Google Docs!

What is Google Docs?

Google Docs is a special place on the internet where you can type your stories, school work, and even make lists.

It’s like having a notebook, but on your computer!

You can open Google Docs and write from any computer, and you can also share your writing with friends or family.

How to Start a Google Doc

  1. Open Google Docs: First, open your computer or tablet and go to the Google Docs website. If you’re using a Chromebook or laptop, ask your teacher to show you how to do this.

  2. Make a New Document: Click on the big plus sign or “blank” button to start a new document. It’s like opening a fresh, empty page where you can write whatever you like!

  3. Name Your Doc: The first thing you want to do is name your document. In the top left, click where it says “Untitled Document” and give your doc a name, like "My Story" or "My List."

  4. Start Typing: Now it’s time to type! Use the keyboard to write anything you want—your name, a short story, or even a silly sentence. You can also use the “Enter” key to start new lines when you’re ready.

  5. Make it Fun: You can make your words stand out by changing how they look! Try using the toolbar at the top.

    • Bold: Make your text thick and strong.

    • Italic: Make your text slanted and fun.

    • Underline: Draw a line under your text.

  6. Add Color: You can even change the color of your text! Just click the color button and choose a fun color for your writing.

Now that you know what Google Docs can do, head to the Got It? section to show off!
