Time to Get Moving with Multiplication!

  • What if learning multiplication was as fun as dancing to your favorite song?
  • Well, guess what?

It can be! Multiplication is everywhere—in music beats, jumping rope, and even clapping games.

Imagine if you could master your multiplication facts just by moving, listening, and playing! Make multiplication exciting and fun.

Multiplication is a fast way of adding the same number over and over.

If you can add 3 + 3 + 3, you already know that 3 x 3 = 9!

Take a quick look at multiplication facts from 0 to 12.

Multiplying by 0

Any number times zero is always zero.

5 x 0 = 0

Multiplying by 1

Any number times one stays the same.

7 x 1 = 7

Multiplying by 2

Just double the number.

2 x 4 = 8

Multiplying by 3

Think of it as skip-counting by 3!

3, 6, 9, 12...

Multiplying by 4

Double the number twice.

4 x 5 = 20 (Because 5 doubled is 10, and 10 doubled is 20!)

Multiplying by 5

Skip count by fives!

5, 10, 15, 20...

Multiplying by 6

Even numbers make this easy!

If you know 5 x 6 = 30, then 6 x 6 is just 6 more: 36.

Multiplying by 7

Skip count or use the trick that 7 x 7 = 49, which is close to 50.

Multiplying by 8

Double the number three times.

8 x 3 = 24 (3 doubled is 6, 6 doubled is 12, 12 doubled is 24!)

Multiplying by 9

Use your fingers! Hold up both hands, palms facing you. Put down the finger that matches the number you are multiplying by 9, and the fingers on the left are the tens, while the fingers on the right are the ones.

Example: 9 x 4? Put down your fourth finger. You have 3 fingers on one side and 6 on the other. The answer is 36!

Multiplying by 10

Just add a zero!

10 x 7 = 70

Multiplying by 11

For 1-9, just repeat the number!

11 x 6 = 66

Multiplying by 12

Think of it as 10x + 2x!

12 x 4 is the same as (10 x 4) + (2 x 4) = 40 + 8 = 48.

Now, get ready to review these facts with a musical mash-up!
